Operation 1950’s Hot Housewife With a Modern Twist – Check in

Hello, is this thing on? Long time no see! Oh my gosh, the last ten days are a blur!

I am about 39,000 feet up somewhere over California (right now) on my way to to the Dallas/Ft. Worth, Texas area. Two things I love about airplanes these days: Gogo Wireless and the ability to get on FlightAware to track where I am and how much longer til I get to where I’m going:

Sufficed to say, things have been quite busy. I kept asking the hubs what day of the week it is. I have no concept of dates or time right now, just jet lag! I wanted to check in and let everyone know how Operation 1950’s Housewife with a Modern Twist is going!
Before I left to Atlanta and Hilton Head , I did more grocery shopping and I took a couple of hours and made the following, which was a bit different than my original menu plan:
  • Two filet steaks, crab cakes, veggies and rice – that was our dinner before I left.
  • Brownies – Link to recipe (I added chocolate chips)
  • Two meatloaves – Link to recipe here. In the comments I have put the measurements to make just one loaf (you can use one or two eggs – I use one now).
  • Garlic Lime Fajita Chicken
  • Brown Sugar Glazed Pork Chops – Link to recipe
  • Mesquite Smoked Chicken

I also bought four Totino’s pizzas (I know, horrible – but we love them LOL and it is only a once in a blue moon thing) in case the hubs forgot to set something out to thaw. I made sure he had side choices depending on whatever suited his fancy, but that were easy to make: baked potatoes, rice, steamed veggies and noodle dishes.

Now, for the chicken dishes. I discovered these great things called “Recipe Inspirations” by McCormick. All the spices are pre-measured and you just add in olive oil, water or some other item you’d probably have on hand, mix, dip the meat in and pour it all into a freezer bag.
My kitchen looked like this:
Yes, I wrote messages in the meatloaf LOL
The result:
While all this was being prepped, I also had laundry in the washer/dryer. I washed all the sheets, towels and scrubbed the bathrooms. Believe me, I had no desire to do all that, but I felt so accomplished once it was done! And proud of myself that I didn’t use travel as an excuse to be a slacker around our place!
Then I took off to Atlanta and then Hilton Head. I feel like I was gone a month! I will do separate trip re-caps. On Friday I flew home and landed in the afternoon. It was a wonderful homecoming followed by a nap then my hubby took me to my favorite local dive bar for some dinner. We walked around a bit and then home to relax. Took the bike:
Vespas are motorcycles?
Saturday we got up and jet-lag was hitting something fierce. I walked Walter and when I got back, hubby was up. I looked at the bed and there was ZERO desire to make it, let alone wash the sheets. But I sucked it up! You all would be proud! I stripped that bed, got the small amount of laundry that could be washed along with the sheets and put it in the washer. We took off to breakfast (it was good!) then ran errands. Bed, Bath and Beyond was our first stop. I got my steripods. I swear by them and we stocked up on razors, face wash (darn it to heck for leaving my face wash in the hotel in Atlanta!) along with a bunch of other stuff I can’t remember off the top of my head right now.
I am addicted to these and must always have them! They should pay me to be a spokesperson.
Next stop was the pet-store for Walter. He made out! Besides medicated doggy shampoo, we got a washing mitt for his baths and he got toys and bones.
Dontcha even think about takin’ my bone!
We got home and the hubs decided to rearrange furniture. I’m liking the new configuration in our place. We sat and watched a movie, or something. And because hubby ate out with friends one night while I was gone and forgot to set something out to thaw another night, we had some freezer meals. I opened some wine, stuck a meatloaf in the oven and made some noodles. Folded laundry, unpacked some stuff, packed stuff and tried to block it out of my head I had to get on a plane the next day.
We enjoyed our dinner and I could barely keep my eyes open. I showered, braided my hair and we hung out a little more. Then off to bed…
Today. We got up and I made the bed and baked some blueberry muffins for breakfast. I also brewed some Cream of Earl Grey tea, one of my favorites! The hubs posed for this photo, but under the caveat I wouldn’t take a picture of his face. I thought he looked incredibly sexy with his 5’clock shadow, but he felt he wasn’t presentable, aww. LOL
I loaded the dishwasher, cleaned off the counters, finished getting ready for my flight, wiped down my bathroom and before I knew it I was waiting to board the plane. I grabbed a Starbucks iced-green tea. It’s the only thing I drink from there with the occasional hot chocolate when it’s cold.
Where’s the plane?

While I felt like I should have probably cooked breakfast yesterday, it was nice to get out and have someone else wait on us. I would say Operation 1950’s Hot Housewife is going pretty well considering the traveling. Our place is not in the exact order I’d like (a few things on the wine bar to clean up), but it is clean, the laundry is done and my husband is being fed while I’m away. I admit, I love it when he writes letting me know how good everything is tasting and thanking me for making everything for him.
Right now, it’s about that time to wrap it up. The hubs and I Skyped a bit and now I am already somewhere over Texas with my Pandora playing! I am sure the people around me find it hilarious I am jamming out. Hey, helps pass the time!
Have a beautiful rest of your day!
